Christmas Tree Collection

xmas tree.jpg (26976 bytes) In an attempt to do our bit for the environment, each year we leaflet an area of the city prior to twelfth night and in return for a small donation we collect natural Christmas trees for recycling. The greater Manchester Probation Service use this project as part of their community service programme, offenders are supervised in the gathering and mulching of the trees. All donations received are used for local charities.

Reading Scheme

A small team of club members visit St. Phillip's, a local primary school, regularly to hear the children read, the school is situated in one of the more deprived areas of the city where there are many one parent families. The headteacher of the school finds the extra assistance extremely valuable and the members involved also enjoy the sessions.

Bulb Planting

Spring sees the planting of daffodil bulbs in the grounds of senior citizens homes in the area, this gesture is always well received by the residents.
